I think you need to have a gmail account to get a "proper" blogger one - I had one already, so it wasn't too much faff. You then get the option to upload a profile, including a picture. I've not bothered adding screeds of info, just a picture. It doesn't show up straight away when you start posting. Pretty primitive.
