this really does my head in, you write a bit, go to post and because it's signed you out you have to write it all again, trivial as it was in the first place.
So
Bliadhn' Ùr mhath, a h-uile duine
hope Christmas etc was good. Any new music finds? Any exciting gigs coming up? Any recommendations for the smaller Celtic Connections events?
Or are you all too busy looking out your fave Now That's What I Call the 80s tracks?
Very uninspired themes for the start of the year I have to say. I have a few celtic connections gigs (and yes van the Man is getting more of my hard earned dosh despite saying I would never see him again,,,). Oh Susanna, Justin Townes earle and Jeffrey Foucalt all worth checking out. Pearl fishers long sold out though.
I've got Fairport and Roaming Roots Review. Maybe something a wee bit more eclectic would be a good addition, but nothing's jumped out yet.
Norrie, there was a film on Sky Arts tonight about Broooce's mad fans, maybe you were in it, I didn't watch it for very long, not after the guy sobbing in his car and being a danger on the roads.
Good question. Elton has been pretty much a sook up to the establishment over many years now without producing much in the way of truly great material for decades. Bowie I think is more of an outsider and more influential than Elton. So Elton. State funeral defo. With lots of crying...
You would think so. The question came up when we were discussing how you define the Soundtrack of your Life - music that was going on around you or (if different) the music you listened to /bought.
.....context is everything.....i saw her sing this at the stephen lawrence benefit concert.....very moving it was too......it was transformed into doreen lawrence speaking to a lost son.....truly quite something...
From the other side: Glen, curiously enough, I bought Foreigner's greatest hits when I was over a few weeks ago. Listening to it in the car prompted me to get Still Crazy out from the dvd club last week (Mick Jones link). My son (18) enjoyed both.
Well who won the battle of the bands on the 70s and 80s nights??
Brooce, Stranglers, Purple, Undertones, Quo, Clash and the Pistols vs Culture Club, Morrisey, George Michael, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure and Bronski Beat??
.
ReplyDeleteAnd to you and yours!
Damn! It appears that the Goalie had been distracted by Norrie's new post!
Delete"funks the ball" - that's a new one on me DC but great solo effort nonetheless...

Maybe that was me Gaie....
Deletetoo much Bruce could do that to you. Here, have a hanky.
DeleteToo much Bruce - never heard of such a thing!
DeleteOk, Norrie so Bowie is your No 1.
ReplyDeleteNext question - When him and Elton "move on", who'll get the bigger tribute in the British media?
Elton - a wealth of archive material. I don't know much about Bowie.

Bowie has without doubt provided the soundtrack to my life....
DeleteDefinitely Elton but who'll sing Candle in The Wind?
Delete.
DeleteYou just had to ask...
Yikes
DeleteSorry!!
DeleteHang on a minute, that's actually Your Song that she's murdering.

Long Ryders Billy!
ReplyDeleteDidnt know you were a fan.
I've even had them played on GIO before!
DeleteSO have I...
DeleteWhen we had to come up with songs about our pets I had "Looking For Rusty the Cat"
I saw them at King Tut's - nice boys who sent all their money home to mother.

I think the sax on Urgent is one of the best solos on any record. Apparently it was spliced together from a number of takes but you wouldn't know.
DeleteBetter than Thunder Road?
DeleteBetter than Baker Street?
Delete(;-)
DeleteI can't think of anything better.
DeleteI saw Duane Eddy play the Art of Noise track on an Everly Brothers tour, Mac.

Do we need a decider??
You'd have to go some to beat Duran Duran.
DeleteI was thinking more tug of war or arm wrestling.
DeleteThats a tug o glaur.
