    1. What did they say was shocking about Tribes and Wall?
Do you think they got mixed up with Relax and Arnold Layne?

    2. They didn't. I only heard the first two songs the bit afterwards and that was it.

    3. Can't see what was wrong with "Went To Mow A Meadow" either. We used to sing it on Sunday school trips

  11. Perhaps Thing Fish is already here. Seems strange he still has access. Maybe he was a fifth columnist all along. Possibly we could take him by surprise.... That's it! - Hold him, Scotch. Bring that rope, Norrie. Now bring the headphones and that Cerys Matthews album and we'll show him how we treat infiltrators on this blog....(Sounds of screaming)

    2. i'm no great fan of 50's crooners type music, however

      (a) the blog had quite a few played tonight and it still has an influence on the input....there are a few political parallels for what seems a simple concept, so here goes......take 'the left' as an example....at one end you have the revolutionary road sliding through to becoming a member of the SDP and holding your meetings in a disused telephone kiosk. in between these two extremes there are the parliamentary road, the anarchist adventurers, the revisionism of the trotskyites, the entryism if the militant tendency, lbj's tent theory, or you have wilsonism that great post war philosophy of student grants and the brains behind the open university, usually known as 'guardian readers' and thats a philosophy that comes out loud and clear (explicitly) on the programme...so yes, its much more than a request show....there is something much deeper going on and the trick to getting your song played is to try and tap that psyche...and suggest a decent tune.

      (b) there was a lot of stuff played that i hadn't heard in years...and it was ok....also many of the songs acted as triggers and thats another strength of the programme...the tales behind the songs are sometimes quite powerful.

      cheers frae the dale

    3. You really sure about that... I thought it dull and a round up of all the usual suspects!

Can sense the drift of some craving former notoriety ;-0

      Delete
    4. i really don't understand the negativity underlying the disparaging remark 'usual suspects'.....aren't they bone fide listeners entitled to ask for a song of their choice?

so i've put you into the box 'anarchist adventurer'

      cheers frae the dale

      Delete
    5. I think 'usual suspects' refers to songs, not listeners (bona fide or otherwise)

  20. However, we did end up with a stray homeless blogger back at ours. We left him sleeping with a cat on the settee. He was gone by daylight. No mean feat since we are a mile from the nearest town with no sunday morning transport links and he probably didn't know where he was when he woke up.

Unless of course the cat ate him.

  22. No wonder norrie's getting 500 hits a day here, it takes me that many to find which thread we're on. So here's my comment transplanted from oh cannae remember, somewhere else:

thanks, Paolo for getting us together again - was a great evening. Only one complaint: we were no sooner started than it seemed to be time to go home. When's the day out to Millport?

Always used to have fun "making that assumption" when a theme about albums came up.

  32. I see Thing Fish managed to get on the old Blog again.
How does he (or she) do it??

Did you see this on Fbook?

"We've got a bit of weekend homework for you! Do you have a friend or colleague who deserves a bit of recognition? Tell Bryan why and ask for a song just for them - and we'll play one each night next week on the show. You can email us getiton@bbc.co.uk or leave your message here. We look forward to hearing your stories Miss B"

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have no idea how Thing-Fish or Henri get in. Henri said he did it via a yahoo address I think, but I've tried that.
So are we all going to make up stories about each other and send them in?

In my parallel broadcasting universe, this evening the presenter will say,
'1977, silver jubilee year and year of release of 'Full House' from our very own Frankie Miller. Hard to choose just one track, but while 'Be Good to Yourself' was a hit single which most of you will have heard, we're going to go for something that gives Frankie's outstanding voice a chance to shine - 'This Love of Mine', co-written with Robin Trower.'

and then a bit later the presenter will say

'in spite of budget cuts we have been able to download a few tracks this evening especially for our loyal listeners and so our Bob Seger library expands to 4 songs with 'Ship of Fools', from the wonderful 'Night Moves' album, also released in 1977'

and just after the 7.00pm news,
    ,
'we are so often asked for songs by Sandy Denny that tonight in celebration of the jubilee we have decided to go ahead and play one. 'I'm a Dreamer' from 'Rendezvous' released in - you've got it - 1977 is simply and utterly stunning. I can't think why we've not played it before.'

  37. "I'd like to nominate my friend Bryan. He deserves recognition for providing work experience for people who have various challenging conditions. Like the woman who laughs inappropriately and uncontrollably, which, of course, has rendered her unable to cope with most social situations and left her otherwise unemployable. I think he would like to hear Stand By Your Man by Tommy Whynot."

    1. Well, it was quite poor in comparison with Hampden a couple of years ago - though I think they got bounced into changing the set because things were running behind and the Queen had to go - never known them to finish with Ob la De.
The singing voice is getting really shaky now.

I liked Grace Jones, Robbie Williams doing Mack The Knife and Jessie J, who's a good singer... suspect much more fun being there though - live broadcasts are always somehow a disappointment because you can hear faults otherwise obscured by amplification.

      regardez vous

    2. I liked Madness and I've never been a fan.

I thought the sound was poor. Many times you couldn't hear the backing - silent cellos.

Stevie Wonder's band are great - it seemed to be all keyboards.
