  5. Back in the days before email and phone voting the bbc ran a competition to see which song would represent the uk in the eurovision song contest.

The winner got 125000 votes. Thats a 125000 people writing on a postcard or sealed down envelope and sending it into broadcasting house.

Power to all our friends /Rich Clifford

      Shame on you quizmeister!!

      Anne Marie David was French.
Cliff only came third with, what was to my mind, Britain's best ever entry and a fine message to our new European chums at that time.

    2. Aye but she represented Luxembourg. And since they had won it two years running The Uk got to host it the following year for some reason. There's something about that year that sticks in my mind but I can't quite put my finger on it.

  7. Emdy want to forecast tonight's playlist? I reckon that The Power of Love by Huey Lewis, Frankie and Jennifer Rush will all be played, as will the Cliffhanger mentioned above.

Here! Maybe we could start a competition to see who gets most guesses right in a week and the winner gets....em....

Aw naw! I was all set with my 5000 Volts shoo-in!

Madmac and DC have been on Sparky's Theme from last year. You'll find the link on the list at the foot of The Last Post. Its actually a very good thread, very representative. Worth a read.

      Norrie, you will remember #45, #46 & #47

'plays what he wants to play'

we're blogging on a theme of power - there's a sick joke right enough - Miss B and BB must be rolling in the aisles

  12. Maybe this is hell. Writing on a blog no one will ever read. Picking songs no one will ever play.

  15. Well it's less than a week since the blog was cut off and the quality of the show has gone down the pan. Julie's Echobelly shout was the highlight so far - the rest of it has been utterly predictable

    Hazel O'Conner was unlistenable

Also the 'senior producer' harpin' on about 'only certain people should be allowed to shop on a Saturday'
      What?
This is still the BBC. Yes.
I think it may be a false perception of control and power rather than a theme for a music show.

From the people who recently brought us 'poke fun at peoples accents night'

      I don't know....

    2. To be fair, the second hour did get a bit better but there's definately been some kind of paradigm shift happened there.

Anyone noticed some producers seem to have gone missing?

    3. They've probably been offered better jobs since your (and SG's) scoring system highlighted how much better they were.

    5. Typo!

I've given up on the show as has Kene.

As for producers lost... Ho Hum, they were probably bored out of their boxes for months!

  19. yep tonight was dire, the endless list of people eating spag bol - who gives a ??

David Hayman, Glen? We met him with a bunch of young lads on Isle of Rum one year, but were, as ever, too shy to have a proper conversation.

    1. I've met David Hayman a couple of times, he's a brilliant speaker, good at motivating youngsters. He has his own charity, Spirit Aid, which has a no nonsense approach to getting things done where its needed. An all round good guy and nothing like the hard man he's often asked to play on screen

      Delete
    2. yes, heard him on the radio talking about Spirit Aid and it was an uplifting programme. Rothesay Academy's adopted the charity and I know he goes over there to talk to the school about where their money's going.

  20. Yes - he's a great actor and this is a demanding part.

I used to watch him in the 70s playing Lady Macbeth among other roles. We're about the same age. I think he lived in Drumchapel at one time.
