Git It On

Yes it is the day of the year that our very own Scotch Git likes the theme. Keep it Country (or at the very least Americana).

That's me and Vic feeneeshed! Bad enough not getting a song played, (from a pure dead brilliant selection, by the way!), but to then be credited with a song I didn't ask for is too much. Vic has pulled this shit on me before. I ain't gonna take it no more!

I was gonna quote Norrie, but then Norrie would have to moderate Norrie's quote, thus putting Norrie in an awkward position. So, as a favour to Norrie, I won't even mention it. Neither Ah will...

  6. They did a prog night once before when our hero was off - it was a fiasco as they kept on cutting the tracks. Vic keeps on saying he "likes a bit of prog" but produces spectacularly poor evidence to support it.

It'll be another fiasco - still, there's always the prospect of Ella getting another outing.

  12. Morrissey's auto biography arrived this morning - I was momentarily jubilant, thinking this will surprise and edify.I'll be taken aback, I thought, delighted.

I only got half way down the first page when I stopped: it's all true, he really is a miserable bastard.Or a Lennonesque self publicist.

This is no page turner, written in 'clever' convoluted and sometimes impeneterable English - and as I say, I'm half way through page 1. Last time I read anything like this was when Pat Kane used to write for The Glasgiow Herald.

Penguin 'classic' - error of judgement there.

I'll have another go tonight, it's going to be a a long slow cumbersome read.

This'll be the same blog which, mere weeks before its demise, was lauded by Bryan Burnett as "the backbone of the show."

Now it seems that those who refuse to succumb to the Dark Side have no voice, dissenting or otherwise.

Well, I ain't going down that road. If the show hasn't realised its true potential, there is a very good (and very obvious) reason.

Pandering to the majority doesn't lift us up, it drags us down.

      Delete
    2. We don't even know if it's the majority, it's just those on FB. Pure hunners (according to their listening figures) don't make any input at all. They're probably harassedly making tea, getting the kids ready for Brownies and chanter practice, wishing someone would take the dog out and vaguely wondering why they're hearing that same **** song yet again, asking themselves why everyone else is apparently settling down to a gourmet meal and a bottle of wine while at their house it's Tuesday, mince & tatties and a battle to get the kids to eat some broccoli. Way too pre-occupied to even consider doing anything about the crap music on the radio. Or else they're on their way home, stuck in traffic and trying to keep calm , wishing someone would destroy radio Scotland's entire stock of Queen songs but sure as hell not about to settle down to a spot of texting or facebooking to complain about it when they get home and dinner's on the table or isn't even started.

The smug complacency of the producers is a thing to behold, and of course is encouraged by the sycophancy of those who wish to remain on the favoured listener list. I'd be astonished if BB really enjoys presenting the same old songs and themes over and over and over again.

It was the inner hebrides for me.........with the disgraceful sound of the shooters out early morning all guests at island house.....occasional residence of the duke but as often full of bird hunters...they kill geese , pheasant, snipe.....then drive round the island with the dead birds on open display sometimes tied to the back of the lackie's jeep....once a bad shot burst a water pipe...sad example of humanity and the ruling class.

  26. I've not seen so much blood on a page since page 117 of MacILvanney on Boxing which is the page I'm at just now.

I'm surprised at the tone GIO has taken with the Blog with its maximum of 20 but more usually 10 inhabitants - that scathing remark seems to be at odds with the programmes inclusive nature - but play the 'numbers game' - often the members of the blog offered multiple choices, sometimes maybe even 20 each of a weekend which amounts to hundreds of suggestions; long before it became fashionable over on f/b.
No good will come of this little spat - I say as a BBC stakeholder - the issue of switching off doesn't sit with the financial input I have with the BBC.

I'm not even so sure that BB has such an input into the music - not by the comments anyway.

    1. *sigh* it's just as well I'm a master of cut & paste - here's what they said:

"There have been several comments on here over the last few days about the music choices on the show – first of all we want to let you all know how much we value and appreciate all the efforts you go to make the show the success it is. It is important though that those who are looking for the programme to move in a different direction appreciate what Get it On is all about.

The ‘prog’ theme is of course like many themes open to the interpretation of our listeners and I am sure we could all sit round a table in the pub and debate for several hours the merits of artists included in the playlist. Every track we play has been requested by someone listening and each of them requests something that is a favourite to them.
We are of the firm belief that music is …music – it’s not good or bad, right or wrong, it’s just music. We all enjoy different styles and artists and wouldn’t the world be boring if we all loved the same thing. In addition this is a popular, mainstream music programme and by its very nature will play popular tracks. From time to time a theme will dictate that there are more obscure, less mainstream tracks, but this is not the backbone of our show. We want all the family to take part – and they do. We are as delighted to hear from a young person asking for One Direction as we are from someone asking for some Scottish tracks from our past or a bit of ‘cheesy pop’.

We have over 6000 followers on Facebook, we reach over 8000 people a week on Facebook. We believe you enjoy the fun of sometimes coming up with suggestions off the cuff, thinking a bit more about them and seeing like-minded contributions.
The blog will not return. At the time we closed the blog we had a maximum of 20 people contributing – and in the main there were about 10 who took part regularly. It had become an area that new people felt they couldn’t contribute to, concerned that their choices or suggestions would be interrogated by a few. We took the decision that the interactive element of the show was better served by Facebook and Twitter, along with email, text and phone calls.

The BBC offers plenty programmes where people can hear left field and less popular tracks including our own nightly specialist shows - Get it On will continue to be a mainstream programme which offers an entry point for our evening music schedule, you will continue to hear popular tracks you love. We hope you will all continue to feel you can participate on the programme, but we would ask that respect for those choices of our listeners who have put as much effort and thought into their suggestions as you do yourself is maintained."

this prompted a flurry of 'we love GIO, it's the best programme in the world, p*** off you moaning bloggers' comments.

    2. Morning DC, last we heard you were in Lardos.

It kicked off this time last week... I went off on one re Fridays "fantasy" theme & they came back with a challenge, ping pong then ensued surrounding genre / "sub" genre themes.
Fast forward to Wednesday, Prog Night. Now bear in mind "they" were already on a high state of alert wee Vic was rude to our Billy in Alloa re his questioning of Rainbow's inclusion in the show, in the background myself, Glen & Henri were all occasionally piping away.
The response to Prog on Farcebook was outstanding in excess of 133 hits with several individuals stating their appreciation to differing degrees, I then lobbed in "Bring back the Blog... GIO benefits from interaction"... Subsequent posts were then moderated, particularly a response to Glen's Quorn / Queen gag.
      Still keeping up?
Then on Thursday b.t.w. The Prog show was poor & full of anomalies ... I received an anonymous unsolicited rambling e-mail taking exception to the bring back the blog post, fair enough I thought as I had posted the obviously offending statement based on the Prog response but was disappointed nobody put their name to it.
I then shared what had happened here with Billy & Glen then about 22:00 "they" went public with what they sent me that afternoon... sycophantic outpouring then ensued with Frank and me supported by Julie & Henry defending the ridiculous comment made by GIO that we instigated the blogs demise!
This thread swelled like a Mellon only for some numb nut at PQ sensing victory posted a thanks for the support of what could best be described as the flock... Again Frank, Julie, Gaie & Henri eloquently presented their cases with Glen and I being a little more pointed.

Get it on I think is in meltdown over it's restricting policy of repeat themes, playlist & conversation ideas & it's unequivocal resistance to development of the show.

In celebration we're talking of a night out in Glasgow's Rock Garden ;-)
