    1. No bad Billy. The critics have been pretty scathing about the vocal though.

    2. I think his voice is fine. It's just that everyone is running out of notes. The can be only so many songs.

      Delete
    3. I bought it,it's good. I didn't really notice the vocal, it just sounded like a good Stones track.

I read recently that there's an op you can get that reinstates the required tissue in the vocal chords. Following the Olympics fiasco, no doubt the next time we hear Macca, he'll be sounding like his 23 year old self, belting out Long Tall Sally - either that or he'll have the good sense to employ a singer.

    2. I hear The White Album isnt very good.

      Delete
    3. I've got most of them. The drawback with vinyl is the first time you hear it is the best it's going to be. Then crackles and pops gradually appear until you think it was recorded in a chip shop.

The big advantage of course is that you can read the sleeves.

    4. They should take the opportunity to make a decent single lp of The White Album:

      1 Back in the U.S.S.R.
      2 Dear Prudence
3 Happiness Is a Warm Gun
      4 Martha My Dear
      5 Julia
6 While My Guitar Gently Weeps
      7 Birthday
      8 Revolution 1
      9 Helter Skelter
      10 Blackbird
      11 Sexy Sadie
12 Why Don't We Do It in the Road?
      13 Hey Jude

  6. Ellie Goulding's "Your Song" has been outdone as the worst record ever made.

I subscribe to a publication called "The Week" and it recommends the new Rikki lee Jones album of cover versions called "the Devil You Know" - It's a mystery why? It conrains several duff covers but the rendition of "Sympathy For The Devil" is clearly the worst record ever made - utterly, indescribably pointless, dull and awful.

    Try Spotify.

  8. my CD of the week is An Awesome Wave by Alt-j. It's not much like anything I normally listen to, but every track's a gem and while it probably won't do the business for you if you're still hoping for something great from the Stones, nevertheless, try Fitzpleasure or Something Good. I simply love it.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The name Alt-j demands automatic rejection. Seconds for Ronnie Hilton.

  10. Thanks for all the suggestions, guys: Springsteen, Macca, Stones, Sidney Devine, Ronnie Hilton, Peter Nardini, the White Album,(yawn) some other album that's so execrable it's brought Henri out of purdah - and you mock the Other Lot?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Howdi Gaie - I listened to Alt -J, it was a tad unusual, I thought, but that's a strength in a music market that is constantly looking backwards for inspiration with endless rehash's of the past.Adele, the Alabamma Shakes, The Black Keys and so on, it's all fine but we've heard it all before and Hot Tuna remain better - there's nothing innovative out there, not a Roxy Music for this century, so far.

I liked it. I defy anyone to tell me they like Rickie Lee Jones cover of "Sympathy For The Devil" - she must be taking the piss?

  26. Nope, half a dozen shouts? About the same as one blog post, admittedly more than the standard four, but less than the bold Patrick's emailed list.

Still, I got ridiculed for texting in to say that out Julie's suggestion of Ike and Tina Turner's first single was a stoater and that it clearly demonstrated that Ike was the real talent.

I said this as a wind up, but when I later thought about it, I realised their work together was much better than Tina's solo stuff, which I generally find insufferable.

Ike isn't held in high esteem by the sisterhood,( I think) so I expect that would be why my comment was rubbished.
