Whenever you put £30 in the tank, £18 goes to the treasury.

Don'tcha just love it when multi-millionaire politicians tell us that we're all in this together?

    1. I was watching Skyfall which surprisingly includes an Animals track, the remains of whom are playing with Steve Cropper in Celtic Connections a Glasgow concert season like Mayfest, during which I saw Warren Zevon in The Fruitmarket in 2000. Creepy or what?

Does anyone on the wireless know about this?

    Never say never again

Recently on PM we discussed stars and their fondness for farewell tours. The Stones, Barbra, Cher. A colleague remembered her dad dragging her to a Stones concert when she was ten because "you'll never have a chance to see them play live again". She recently died of old age.

An excerpt from Eddie Mair's column in Radio Times.

    4. Even if she saw them at the age of 10 in 1962, you don't die of old age at 60. I'm glad to say I've never seen Eddie Mair's column and this story cannot be true.

How on earth did Gilbert O Sullivan get on one hit wonder night??

    Wiki:

Gilbert O'Sullivan (born 1 December 1946) is an Irish-English singer-songwriter, best known for his early 1970s hits "Alone Again (Naturally)", "Clair" and "Get Down".[1] The music magazine Record Mirror voted him the No. 1 UK male singer of 1972.[2]
Worldwide he has charted 16 top 40 discs; including six number one songs, the first of which was 1970's "Nothing Rhymed" (for further information see Gilbert O'Sullivan discography). His most successful recording period was between 1970 and 1980, though he has since recorded nine studio albums up to 2011's "Gilbertville".

This is what happens when there is no Blog to police the show.

    1. I think it was more "Where are they now?" and (I may be in a minority here) my shelves have not groaned under the weight of this man's musical output for some time.

    2. No it wasnt.

"On tonight’s Get It On we’re looking for artists who just vanished.
You know, the ones who had a big UK hit then disappeared off the chart radar like Kung Fu Fighting Carl Douglas or Nena and her 99 Red Balloons."

    3. Have I ever mentioned that an acquaintance of mine wants to bring Gilbert over to Rio to do some shows?
I've told him that if gets Leo too as a double bill, I'm in.

And I didnt call you a liar. I was just putting you right.

    4. I didn't listen to the show and I'm sure you're correct.

      Is your friend's name Fitzcarraldo?

    5. Which Gilbert did they play?
The one where he throws himself out a tower, the one where he enjoys the company of little girls or the one where he is getting humped by his dug.
There's not enough Gilbert on GIO.

    6. Nothing Rhymed. A great song it has to be said and if you look at the original clip you'll swear its a young Roy Keane singing it.

I'm still amazed it was included in the theme.

    7. It's about time he did his album with Rick Rubin

    8. Maybe.
There are a lot of men at pianos who have Gilbert to thank for paving the way - Elton, Barry Manilow, Billy Joel, Dean Friedman,Christopher Cross. Even Rupert Holmes wouldnt have been around if it hadnt been for G O'S.

    1. Good - glad to hear it - though it's a bit corny, I think, I'm sure we can do better. I didn't hear the show, so haven't a scoobie what you are on about, but anything that advances the neuro-association between "henri hannah" and "show" in people's mind is always welcome.

It's a thematic request show.I contribute, the show sometimes gives me something back that I enjoy. Many others do too. That's what's supposed to happen but hey -ho,listening ain't compulsory. I believe radio 6 is quite eclectic (within narrow historical genre specific definitions but is even less democratic).

And I ain't hiding behind 'annoymous' to contribute here either so.... feel free to identify yourself..who the f*** is Alice?
