Saw Beatles biographer Mark Lewisohn last night. The first volume (1845-1962) took him ten years but he expects to finish the third in 14 years. Seems Macca not such a nice man.
Why do these books have to be so long? I battled my way through Ian Bell's Dylan tome and I'll not be tackling another any time soon. It's not for lack of interest, I just can't be bothered wading through all the minutiae to get to the what they were/are like as people bits. Such a philistine. I just gave up on Booker winner The Luminaries at page 350 - it's 842 pages long, 500 pages too long.
However, I never knew the Beatles started in 1845, so maybe you could precis the rest of the book for us, Glen? the juicy bits about nasty Macca. Quick before Henri comes along all guns blazing.
It goes back to the Irish potato famine. It's a work of real scholarship with no stone unturned - faces appearing in old photographs are tracked down and interviewed. Lewisohn used to work for McCartney and was supposed to work on a biography but resigned to write the Beatles book instead. McCartney was apparently very nasty to Stuart Sutcliffe before he died. They were all pretty strong characters apparently - Lennon said it - "You have to be a bastard to make it. That's a fact. And the Beatles were the biggest bastards on Earth."
........on madras college maths department website there used to be a fotae of macca's maths jotter from school....he was pretty hot on algebraic fractions.....but then i read in a newspaper that he was throwing pelters at david blaine when he was hoisted in his glass case..which made me ponder that perhaps macca was a jekyll and hyde character....although i like his choice of residence down there in rye..... he was glad aw they wee neds came out in force when he broke down at drumchapel services where btw you get an excellent roll and square sausage...
Now now...your favourite Edinburger-Cancerian will be angry with you for slagging-off one of her favourites...ever since she saw her as a support act! You really do want a Chinese burn don't you! Jx
Sometimes I hate myself. Big problems with Commonwealth Games ticket sales. I'm a bit concerned about the traffic arrangements - they are advising walking or cycling - but at least the venues are just about ready.
The Daughter (Catriona...we probably know each other well enough to tell you(se) her actual name now)...has tickets to 2 CG events...and I'm guest of honour. I wonder if it's true that hotel prices have rocketed because of the games...and are they putting on extra trains to Edinburgh? Can't say I relish busy-train travel...it's bad enough normally. Jx

One of the suggestions, "Aye, Aye, Aye Moosey" by Modern Romance, (not a one hit wonder, obviously) reminded me that it was used as a chant by Aberdeen fans back in the 80s along the lines of - "Aye, aye, aye Doug Rougvie".

Macca has always struck me as being pretty thick.
