Day 1 is songs that make you laugh i.e comedy films. But not songs that are in comedy films. Jsut songs that make you laugh. Like all the Robbie Williams records.
Siobhan Synnot is a film reviewer with a strange taste in comedy films. She's being asked about her favourite 5 films for each genre on this week's themes.
Kind Hearts and Coronets was on over the holiday, it's a cracker, though not laugh-out-loud funny. The Heat was very, very funny and so was The Full Monty, back in the day.
Anyway, onwards - how wide will the goalposts be for 'coolest bands around'?
There's a letter in Sunday's Herald about Allan Morrisson's top 50 Scottish albums of 2013. The author sets out his credentials by telling us he's never heard of most of the bands and that they may be made-up names to pad out the unlikelihood of there being as many as 50 recording artists in Scotland and ends by saying there are hardly any venues for bands to play now anyway.
So anyway, my first two cool bands would be There Will Be Fireworks and AMWWF.
I presume they were at the request of Julie and Bowie's inclusion was down to Norman. I thought they might have shunted my Barron Knights request from Monday to Tuesday.
The Chvrches spelling annoyed me, but apparently it was to save any confusion in internet searches. Was surprised to discover that Ian Cook of The Unwinding Hours is one of the Chvrches. Y'all remember how in my glory days on GIO I got an Unwinding Hours track played despite most folk never having heard of them.
I did listen to most of the programme last night and it was OK, but BB's comment about alt-J was pretty ignorant.
Just had a look on FB! 26 posts and half of them for The Ps. Dearame.. At least Mad Mac has a good chance of getting on. (I thought he'd walked away from it all?)
I was chatting to one of the GIO Facebook fraternity yesterday at a party. From the erstwhile bloggers, he only recognised Norrie's name and the only names he could come up with himself were Erik Zoha and Margherita Still. Jx
No change to the playlist at all then?

DeleteI guess that this won’t be on tonight
DeleteNor this
Deletepreviously on the blog... A Very Happy New Year to you too, Norrie
ReplyDeleteI like Mike Reid's Chantilly Lace
ReplyDeleteYou're deranged (;-)
DeleteNone of Siobhan's fillums would make my top five!
The Producers - Zero Mostel, Gene Wilder, Kenneth Mars, pure comic genius!
Young Frankenstein - Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, the incomparable Madeline Kahn.
Raising Arizona - John Goodman, Holly Hunter, perra bams!
The Man With Two Brains - Kathleen Turner - Hubba! Hubba!
Life of Brian - John Cleese particularly funny.
Good choices but I haven't seen Raising Arizona. I like The Jerk but it suffers by not having Kathleen Turner in it.
DeleteWho's Siobahn?
DeleteI see they still managed to get The Ps, The Smiths and JC on last night.
No Barron Knights though! A travesty.
Every film sufferes by not having Ms Turner in it.

DeleteAgreed Norrie!
DeleteNo Heebeegeebees either. C'mon!
DeleteAt least Jake Thackray got on.

Cool = critically acclaimed?
DeleteCool = popular?
The goalposts will be from Wester Ross to Nova Scotia (;-)
DeleteI thought The Heat was only so so, but maybe coz its a girlie film. Preferred Dragnet (87) in the genre.
DeleteThat was good despite having Tom Hanks in it. Anything with Dan Aykroyd is the business.
DeleteWhy are indie films thought of as being "cool"? A lot of them are just cack and most of them are not even in 3D (some are even in black and white!!)!
ReplyDeleteRuss Meyer's films were in 3DD (;-)
DeleteWhat happened to Pete? Surely a theme for him to pursue? Go and have a look, Billy, maybe he's lost in a previous blog.
ReplyDeleteHe's probably just come to his senses...
DeleteAh, now it's 'ice-cool acts who have never gone out of fashion' - cue the usual old favourites.
ReplyDeleteSurprising but welcome inclusion of The Tubes (:-)
DeleteI presume they were at the request of Julie and Bowie's inclusion was down to Norman.

Norrie got a shout for Chvrches (yes, that is how they spell it). I requested Bowie after seeing the goalposts moving.
DeleteNorrie lurvles Kathleen Turner...probably even lurvled her as Chandler's Mum in Friends...play nice now Jx
ReplyDeleteNever seen Friends but bet I would have!
Delete*ahem*
Julie is taking advantage of your innocence.
I strongly suggest you reserve judgement.
