Hello all I hope you have had a great 2013. As it is a pretty busy time over the next few weeks I will not be updating these pages but wish to take the time to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2014.
And the same to yourself, Norrie. Many thanks for providing this space for us all to continue talking nonsense and being friends. Much appreciated. xox
Don't worry Gaie, we all know you meant Brice Willis.
Yippee-ki-yay, etc.
Don't forget, all fares terminating outwith Glasgow (e.g., Renfrew, Inverclyde, Edinburgh, Denny, Alloa, The Kingdom, Leblon), are subject to a boundary charge. (Tips welcome. No cheques).
Jan 3rd. Hope you all had a good one. I'm Pete in Scourie, and it's my objective to get good music played on Get It On. Not the run of the mill Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, Sandy Shaw, and Proclaimers that always get airplay. Not that there's anything wrong with them, but they do get played a hell of a lot on the show. Let's hear something different. Teach the world there's more to music than bloody X-factor.
I very nearly got some Jackie Leven on tonight's show. I don't think it's too much to ask, one song a night/week/month that is a bit different, and never played on mainstream radio. As this is a "request" show, I think it's only fair that our requests are heard (and played). A bit of Jethro Tull now and again, or Jackie Leven, or other unplayed act.
I've been promised some Help Yourself on Tom Morton tonight (Sat 4th Jan), so I'm getting somewhere..

Yes, Ronnie has finally served his time. Back in the day I was one of two people in Rio who had a video recorder that could play the UK video system on Brazilian TVs. One day Mr Biggs knocked on the door with a copy of the film "Buster" which he had been sent so we sat and watched that followed by a TV drama (ITV I think) called "The Great Paper Chase" which was the story of how the Express had found Ronnie in Rio and Jack Slipper's attempt at arresting him. The evening was peppered with "I never said that!" "That's not what happened" etc etc.
It's hard to believe he just knocked on your door. Were you in it from the start? Did you get a cut for providing sanctuary? Is that how you could afford fancy video equipment and a millionaire lifestyle? Have you been living a lie all these years?
Well, no, there would have been a couple of phone calls involved, but I skipped all that for the sake of the narrative. He might have rung the doorbell.
I finally put the Christmas decorations up today and I've still to write the cards to give to my neighbours...my most unChristmassy Christmas yet. The Daughter's due home within the hour though so all's well Jx
Stranger In Blue Suede Shoes remains one of the best songs I first heard via GIO...Glen's request? I'd mention JJ Cale, Ray Price, Eydie Gorme, Bobby Bland... Jx
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ, moves on, nor all thy piety nor wit shall lure it back to cancel half a line, nor all thy tears wash out a word of it.
yes, indeed - welcome and best of luck with your campaign. We're all tired and jaded with the effort of trying to kick some life into the programme. Well all apart from Henri who never gives up. :0)
A wee look at Friday's playlist shows no Frankie Miller, no surprise there then.
Roddy Hart plays some decent songs, but it's only once a week and on the mellow side mostly. And it's the middle of the night...
And the same to yourself, Norrie. Many thanks for providing this space for us all to continue talking nonsense and being friends. Much appreciated. xox

ReplyDelete'Botanic Endgame' - Michael Marra ~ Chess
ReplyDeleteChess has been described as warfare, a science, an art, a game, a sport and a complete waste of time. It depends who you ask...
In 19th Century chess circles the Scotch Gambit was a popular opening.
Y'all remember the Births, Deaths & Marriages theme which was pulled after the Clutha Vaults incident?
Well, tomorrow we're having the replacement theme which was also pulled after Nelson Mandela died.
Board Games.

ReplyDeleteBit early for merry xmases is it no???
Yes, anything could happen.
DeleteIt's early coz Norrie is busy over the next few weeks.
Ho! Ho! Ho!
There are more than three of them!!
DeleteC'way then Adam, get yer other 'celeb' photo on for all tae see!
ReplyDeleteYes, Ronnie has finally served his time.

DeleteSo when's your book out Adam?
DeleteHe was on TV tonight. They made the Great Train Robbery look like an episode of Top Cat.
DeleteI'm thinking of taking that story on tour, DC.
DeleteAdam needs a doormat like my lassie's. No WELCOME! or WIPE YOUR FEET!
Rather, the unambiguous COME BACK WITH A WARRANT!
Place seems to be full of Millers- nepotism?
DeleteWhere's Billy The Alloa Kid???
ReplyDelete....and everybody else??

ReplyDeleteI think.
I think.

DeleteThis joke is a Pavlovian reaction, just as, when anyone mentions they're going to a panto, I automatically say, "Oh no you're not."
An English comedian (whose identity I cannot recall) spoke of the time he and his classmates were required to watch a documentary on Pavlov's dogs.
They giggled hysterically at the sight of silly dogs reacting to buzzers telling them when to eat.
When the documentary was over, the bell rang so they all got up and went to lunch.
A Bell's afore ye go
DeleteE a fly goo slaber
DeleteSo what's everyone wanting for Christmas?
ReplyDeleteZero. Zilch. Nowt. Kloom. (Hebrew). Shoom davar. (Hebrew). Sweet F.A. Not a bloody thing.
Yes, I do have a thesaurus.
Ironically, I got it from Santa.

East? Shure, Satan....
DeleteI'd like world peace and enough money to humiliate other people at will.
DeleteFreddie Mercury Willie Warmer for me please!
DeleteWhat about a hairy lip whilst you're at it?
DeleteHullo!
DeleteI'd like to teach the world to sing
DeleteStart with Ellie Goulding
DeleteI o Gill dung
DeleteI would also like singing lessons for Ellie Goulding.
DeleteOr a hitman...
This Christmas theme is proving reeeeeealy popular tonight! We've had loooaaaads of requests, haven't we Miss Baps?
ReplyDeleteHello, is it me you're looking for?
ReplyDeleteI escaped to have a life last week. I didn't let you all know I was away in case you came round and trashed the house (;-)
We already knew, noticed anything strange about the house on your return... check the ceiling!
DeleteThere are a few slates missing off the roof but I put that down to the stormy weather...
DeleteThere are a few slates missing round here too.
Delete♪ It's a little bit funny ♪
ReplyDeleteAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Mikhail Kalashnikov had a disproportionate influence on global politics post-WWII
There should be a theme devoted to him!
I won't hold my breath...
I finally put the Christmas decorations up today and I've still to write the cards to give to my neighbours...my most unChristmassy Christmas yet. The Daughter's due home within the hour though so all's well Jx
ReplyDeleteWell, you need an appropriate song!
DeleteIf you ask for this one it might even get played!
>8-D
She's home. Not brought too much dirty washing and she asked "why does food taste better here"?...so...happy Julie again. Jx
ReplyDeleteYes it's nice when they come back. We've got son, daughter-in-law and new baby. Total chaos but great fun.
DeleteAny idea what tonight's theme is?
ReplyDeleteAs if it matters really...
It's f-festive songs, Billy. A chance for a 100% prediction?
DeleteHowever, if you want some decent alternative Christmas songs go to Roddy Hart on Alison again.
A bit humbuggy fur you Billy!
DeleteHah bumhug (;-)
DeleteAk kain. Still at work so not really in a festive mood yet.
DeleteA lot of less obvious stuff being posted over on the other side which looks promising.
Delete*eternally optimistic*
In the mood? Me too & on Stand-by... I'll attempt to keep yer lights on if needs must.
DeleteThere's a theme - "Unsung Heroes". Must go - lights flickering.
DeleteRight you lot, straight to bed and get to sleep NOW or Santa wont leave you any presents!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas all of you who're not my FB pals Jx
ReplyDeleteIs it over? Or will I continue to hear silly seasonal songs on the wireless?
Shurely it's time for Ring Out, Solstice Bells ?
(Some silly seasonal songs are more agreeable than others).
I don't know. Are Easter eggs in the shops yet?
DeleteMerry Xmas awbiddy! Jist struck me that we're a bit behind you.
ReplyDeleteDid you get The Broons Annual again?
DeleteMorning all! How are your heads this morning?
ReplyDeleteHead's fine, heading out to the hill (Corlic, it's very wee, but perfectly formed). I'm not sure if there's a song about it.
DeleteI presume that's another recorded show tonight. What are the chances of Kevin Ayers and Alvin Lee?
ReplyDeletesurprisingly both have been played, and they'd be great shouts. Give it a go, Billy, they don't listen to me.
DeleteIt's mutual.
OH, OK, pointless if it's already recorded, sorry , a bit slow this week, year, whatever
DeleteBryan and producer Richard have picked the best to fill the show for you. Oh dear...
DeleteStranger In Blue Suede Shoes remains one of the best songs I first heard via GIO...Glen's request? I'd mention JJ Cale, Ray Price, Eydie Gorme, Bobby Bland... Jx
DeleteRay Dolby
DeleteMaybe It's Oh So Quiet or Love Is All Surround (;-)
Thing-Fish would have requested Kevin Ayers, or maybe it was Greggery Peccary.
DeleteI think it was before either of them were born! Jx
DeleteTonight's playlist looks quite good 8-0

DeleteWow that's a deep seated resentment...
Delete...like a dagger in the Hart...
I'm here.
ReplyDeleteDon't know what they are all complaining about in Buenos Aires - its been 40°C here.
Hot town, summer in the city right enough.
Just the same as here then.
DeleteHang on that's 40°F (;-)
DeleteI might champion this guy for 2014...my wee Blue Rose Code experiment was successful! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYSVMgRr6pw

That's a good song.
DeleteMy money's on Malmo. Great tunes from Frank and pals.

ReplyDeleteWithout A Care Polka... Ha ha ha!
Here it comes...
Radetzky March ~ Johann Strauss g.i.o.
Have you made any New Year resolutions?
ReplyDeleteIs that a trick question?
No. I've resolved not to make any this year.
DeleteI could put a shout in for Joe Tex I suppose .....
DeleteOdds on Running Up That Hill?
DeleteOdds on Jethro Tull for ramorra?
I'll be at the pantomime, (Oh, yes I will!), so if my request is played you have to tell me. Will you do that, boys and girls?
How on earth did they manage to shoe horn Call Me into last night's theme???
ReplyDeletePredo record beckons tonight I fancy....
Dinnae ken, makes a change from Heart of Glass...
DeleteGo for it!
There will be gallons of Blondie (and Queen) next week.

DeleteAch...I can't be bothered till a good theme happens along. Jx
ReplyDeleteButcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker...
Welcome Pete!
ReplyDeleteSee above. Waaaaaayyyyyyyyy above (c'mon Norrie).
I've also unsuccessfully requested Jackie Leven on a few occasions. Here's hoping!!

DeleteThere are some things you cant cover up with lipstick and powder, though Julie.
DeleteIs Pete no Capt Ramius re-booted?
ReplyDeleteCapt Ramius is re-booting to Sweden ramorra.
