Saw the Mavericks last night. Raoul Malo still sings like an angel, new guitarist Eddie Perez injects some energy and Robert Reynolds just strolls around in a Stetson smiling at the crowd.
I haven't been in touch since they rejected my last bon mot about The Fatal Restaurant in Budapest. In Tom Shields' day I was "Our Man With A Theodolite".
Where is Dale Kelvin? On a world tour with that choir?
Yep, I'm gutted about Caravan Place, I was really looking forward to it. I shall have to take my chances on Little Feat. I also meant to book tickets for Maggie Reilly but forgot and now it's sold out.I'd also thought of going to see that great traditional Scottish musician, Tony Benn, but it's sold out too. Mind you, after hearing him being interviewed with all the intellectual gravitas MaCauley & Co could bring to the table, missing out might not be such a bad thing, he didn't sound much good at small talk...and slightly bonkers with it.Age, as we know, doesn't come alone.
Yes, whilst Dale Kelvin was entertaining the Olympic Village with his barber shop quartet, I was walking briskly across the Abbey Road pedestrian crossing. Great fun, though the studio looked really inconsequential - presumably they've built a big bit on at the back.
I cannot stand Edi Reader on the radio but I've seen her twice on stage (by 'mistake'...once as support for Willie Nelson and once as a part of a Scotland's Music thingy at the Usher Hall) and she's fantastic live and I really truly enjoyed her sets. I hate the singing accent on radio, on telly the Mariah Careyesque hand waving makes me seethe but onstage she's just mesmerising and brilliant. One of life's mysteries!
and I'll tell you what else, I once rode a Raleigh Chopper round the south end of Bute with my kids (so not a nipper myself at the time). My knees hit my chin every pedal turn going up the long, long, long hill to Drumreoch before whizzing down to Kilchattan Bay. I'm not a Chopper fan.
Truly dreadful Adam. Terrible terrible news. I dont mean this to sound crass but I have always feared these indoor fireworks. I was actually a bit scared at the Kiss show in a small theatre.

Good collection Norrie.
DeleteI'm a big Amazon customer, but I'm sorry to hear about HMV. I enjoyed spending an hour or two browsing in the Edinburgh store when over.
Tiredness can kill as could a trip with Miss Babs ☺

ReplyDeleteI burned mine in protest. Can I have 50% of yours?
(Gaie made me do it).
By waiting this long I'll get 25% more for my sister's money.
DeleteFine! I'll just drown my sorrows...
Just back from spending my vouchers.
DeleteDid you buy 20 great songs featured in adverts or are you content to tape that from the radio tonight?
DeleteI got André Rieu's Greatest Hits but I was sorely tempted by the Alan Titchmarsh boxed set.
DeleteIs he not a gardner?
ReplyDeleteCharlie is his darlin'!

if he's as good a singer as he is an author then the compost heap should benefit.
DeleteThe talent pool shrinks as more arrests are made.

ReplyDeletewell that's 2 of us happy with Celtic Connections so far and Roddy Hart's my new best friend since he replied to my tweet. Like, totally, star-struck.
DeleteHenri, if you're reading this though, I think you said you were going to see Caravan Palace - they've just been cancelled.
Raoul Malo waved to my wife as he left the stage, but she denies knowing him.
DeleteHenri, I'm one of the sad people who made a pilgrimage to Abbey Road to get his picture take.
Did you wear the white suit?
(_8^(|)
Yes, the one with the arms tied behind my back.
DeleteIs that you making a contribution to the Herald Diary this morning Glen? We should be telt.

DeleteDale's masquerading as Ronnie over on the dark side
DeleteI see he has even fewer friends than I have.

ReplyDeleteI guess that's the way you need to walk across otherwise you would leave nasty red stains on the iconic black and white crossing ☺
DeleteBTW Have you added your picture here?
Have you all gone to Abbey Road?
ReplyDeleteno.
DeleteHow no'?
no sat nav
DeleteHope you all enjoyed your Burns supper. I had mine but didn't tune in to Bryan in case it gave me indigestion.
ReplyDeletewith Edi Reader a given, you'd have worse than indigestion.
DeleteWe should have done anither poem for Bryan to ignore

I heard her interviewed - possibly by Edie Stark - it was a very enjoyable and interesting talk. So she can be OK on radio, just not singing!
Deleteah've no gone.
ReplyDeleteah wiz on the telly lol
i'm off to see lincoln
cheers frae the dale
There's a nice cathedral and a steep hill ☺
DeleteThere's an Abbey (Wall) Road in Pittenweem and its pretty steep. You couldnt get up it on a Raleigh Chopper, I'll tell you that.

Either Daniel Day-Lewis is Morrissey, or Morrissey is Daniel Day-Lewis.
Film any good?
DeleteRoxy John was saying that Ferry didnt allow them to use "Slave to Love" on the soundtrack.
Deh ken.
Awful news from Brazil.
