Saw the Mavericks last night. Raoul Malo still sings like an angel, new guitarist Eddie Perez injects some energy and Robert Reynolds just strolls around in a Stetson smiling at the crowd.
I haven't been in touch since they rejected my last bon mot about The Fatal Restaurant in Budapest. In Tom Shields' day I was "Our Man With A Theodolite".
Where is Dale Kelvin? On a world tour with that choir?
Yep, I'm gutted about Caravan Place, I was really looking forward to it. I shall have to take my chances on Little Feat. I also meant to book tickets for Maggie Reilly but forgot and now it's sold out.I'd also thought of going to see that great traditional Scottish musician, Tony Benn, but it's sold out too. Mind you, after hearing him being interviewed with all the intellectual gravitas MaCauley & Co could bring to the table, missing out might not be such a bad thing, he didn't sound much good at small talk...and slightly bonkers with it.Age, as we know, doesn't come alone.
Yes, whilst Dale Kelvin was entertaining the Olympic Village with his barber shop quartet, I was walking briskly across the Abbey Road pedestrian crossing. Great fun, though the studio looked really inconsequential - presumably they've built a big bit on at the back.
I cannot stand Edi Reader on the radio but I've seen her twice on stage (by 'mistake'...once as support for Willie Nelson and once as a part of a Scotland's Music thingy at the Usher Hall) and she's fantastic live and I really truly enjoyed her sets. I hate the singing accent on radio, on telly the Mariah Careyesque hand waving makes me seethe but onstage she's just mesmerising and brilliant. One of life's mysteries!
and I'll tell you what else, I once rode a Raleigh Chopper round the south end of Bute with my kids (so not a nipper myself at the time). My knees hit my chin every pedal turn going up the long, long, long hill to Drumreoch before whizzing down to Kilchattan Bay. I'm not a Chopper fan.
Truly dreadful Adam. Terrible terrible news. I dont mean this to sound crass but I have always feared these indoor fireworks. I was actually a bit scared at the Kiss show in a small theatre.

I heard her interviewed - possibly by Edie Stark - it was a very enjoyable and interesting talk. So she can be OK on radio, just not singing!

DeleteThere's an Abbey (Wall) Road in Pittenweem and its pretty steep. You couldnt get up it on a Raleigh Chopper, I'll tell you that.
