Best of british music? I hate these narrow themes? Never saw the opening ceremony due to spending most of friday night trying to put a side onto a back of some fine swedish furniture. On saturday morning I decided to rescue it from the back field where it had landed and took it back to be told that the thread was slightly off sync and would I like a replacement. Yes I said so long as you build it whilst I am watching the opening ceremony on Iplayer. However i went to the pub instead so i have still not seen it.
Paul is in danger of becoming "that old bloke who can't sing". He can still play bass though and could replace Bill Wyman in The Stones on condition that he keeps away from the microphone.
I watched most of the opening ceremony on iplayer on Saturday and found it quite enjoyable. I had to skip through most of the parade of athletes as it exposed my ignorance of world geography ☺
Ì thought the opening ceremony was absolutely brilliant. In fact I'm going to watch it again tonight, missing out the parade right enough. It was mad, it was fun, it was an incredible feat of organisation and to have such vision and then to see it all come together - what an experience - talking of Come Together, I thought Arctic Monkeys? That's a weird choice, but they were great. The engineering of the huge torch was breath-taking - yep, unashamed admiration, I loved it.
C'mon, Dale, time for an update.
Best of British? Oh I don't know, that's impossible. Thank goodness I don't have to think of anything, I'll go and have my tea now. :0)
Dale has been permanently re-assigned to empty seat filling duty. Attendances plummeted when rumours circulated that Paul McCartney was performing in impromptu concerts at various venues.
I thought it was very good (even though I had to put up with the commentators here going on about how much better Rio would do it in 2016. I think all the drumming got them miffed. As if we had stolen their thunder). Could have cut Mr Bean down a bit.
As for Paul, was he doing it live? There seemed to be a bit of a guddle when he started Hey Jude.
shades of Live-Aid when the sound didn't work to start with on the same song. I've just watched it again and I'm stunned at how they did the 5 olympic rings, and how realistic the lanes of molten steel were and how they did all the fireworks and how they got it all past health and safety! Amazing! Then I watched the gymnasts doing multiple twirls and somersaults and twists in the air. Amazing!
Tuned in to GiO tonight whilst painting wood for a new garden fence and heard someone request their "Inspirational song".
Lily the Pink
Didn't catch who twatted it; hope it was none of you lot......
I disagree with Adam re Mr Bean. They had to do his bit for the length of the tune. It would have been daft to cut it short.
Like Gaie, I've had another look at the ceremony. I don't think that the NHS bit worked, nor did the love affair with sheep at the start. But hey, who am I to criticise our neigh-bours?
All in all, they did a good show, one which will have to compete with the Carnaval approach in four years time. Well done Dale.
I just hope that the musical legacy is more than The Scaffold
I thought the Opening Ceremony was mainly very good indeed...very impressed...the flame lighting was spectacular...Paul was shite as usual...no wonder there are waiting lists in the NHS if all the staff are cavorting about like they're on Summertime Special...I already have a speaker pillow and now I want a light-up downie! Emilie Sande was excellent. liked Mr Bean but perhaps Adam has a point. Liked the James Bond in the Palace bit. Hurrah!
Aaaagh! Tomorrow's theme is "your sporting songs". Thon Eric fae Dundee will be hard pushed to separate Dont Stop Me Now, We Are The Champions and the Bike song. Eye of the Tiger will sneak in again as will Jump. Maybe someone will think of Sailing this time or Volley-vou. Any others I've forgotten?? We could try and break Glen's record on Guess the Playlist.

ReplyDeleteIf you hate narrow themes you'll detest utterly the rest of the week's offerings.
We're well out of it...

DeleteAnd all on a shoestring budget of £27M
DeleteSummertime Special! Ah that takes me back.
DeleteBaby get dooooown come on down to the summertime souuuuund
Gaie, I think it was "Let It Be" at Live Aid.
ReplyDeletecould well have been, Adam, I was ahem somewhat indisposed by the end of that show...
DeleteHow come Julie gets to say rude words? I mean I totally agree with her on Sir Paul's contribution, but we need to know what the guidelines are.
I didn't see the Opening Ceremony, (couldn't be arsed), but I hear the highlight was an auld Kraut giving suspicious salutes.
Perhaps the German conquest of Europe is almost complete.
Thios blog is self policing.....
