But probably the biggest disappointment of the day was the non-appearance on a Friday of the Liquid Entertainer.
Mind you the lad Doig did his best as a late substitute. He must have been on Norrie's course this last week. Top marks too by the looks of it. He's well changed his tune.

  20. Went to Paisley Abbey on Friday for the concert with Roddy Hart & the Lonesome Fire, and King Creosote, both along with the RSNO. It was a great evening - I'm not a huge fan of either Roddy's voice or King Creosote's, but they were both superb, as of course was the orchestra. The acoustics were glorious - I thought - always nervous about making that kind of comment in case there's anyone listening that knows a bit about sound reproduction, which I don't, but I don't think I've ever heard better. I wonder if there was less amplification than in a normal gig venue - all was very clear anyhow and the singers were spot on. The setting was pretty special and the highlight of the night was King Creosote singing Cod Liver Oil and the Orange Juice along with rollicking orchestral accompaniment. Paisley Abbey's never seen the likes!

Shame the Apollo isnt there anymore.

    7. I was only in the Apollo a handful of times and such a concert-going novice that anywhere would've been wildly exciting so I can't truthfully add to the nostalgic ramblings. I saw the Stones, Kevin Ayers, Moody Blues (why?) and - well obviously we say, 'the Quo, man'. They were the last and it certainly felt like the balcony could come down any time.
But I can't say I miss it, what with all the wealth of venues we have now, not all good certainly, but some imaginative and some unique, like Barrowlands. I suppose if that went I'd feel the same as the Apollo stalwarts do.
