Thursday's theme reminds me of the "vegetables that make you cry" night.

When Wee Shuggie's teacher asked "What vegetable can make you cry?" Shuggie replied "Turnips!"

When asked to elaborate, Shuggie said "Well, Miss, if sumb'dy hits ye in the baws wi' a turnip, it brings tears tae yer eyes!"

    8. by golly you're a forgiving man, Norrie - I heard her too and she sounded downright rude. I switched over shortly after though, since it was clear I was going to get more interesting banter by talking to my cat in a room where I choose the music.

What can radio Scotland's mission statement be, I wonder?

Having perused the themes listed, I resolve to search the dial for Country music from 19:00 onwards.

Prior to this, I'll catch up on BBC Radio4's alleged comedy slots.

I shall return when we recall those who died during 2013. Probably my best chance to get a Mindy McCready song played...

    8. Nope, Jamie Hannah is no relation to me. I find it really hard to get interested with Vic presenting.I can't explain it, something very insincere about the presentation. Our hero may be sometimes frusutrating, but he's quite sincere about what he's doing.

    9. they just can't get the staff...if you think Vic's bad don't bother tuning in to 5 Live's coverage of Glasgow 2014........it's McCauley and co.........i'm not sure if his initial efforts were insincere, indifferent, out of his depth with a subject he has no interest in or whatever.....dire is an understatement.

  16. Just in case this pair come up as a one-off collaboration:
"Over the years, Gabriel has collaborated with singer Kate Bush several times; Bush provided backing vocals for Gabriel's "Games Without Frontiers" and "No Self Control" in 1980, and female lead vocal for "Don't Give Up" (a Top 10 hit in the UK) in 1986, and Gabriel appeared on her television special. Their duet of Roy Harper's "Another Day" was discussed for release as a single, but never appeared."

  18. Just back from seeing Anderson McGinty Webster Ward and Fisher at CCA. They are absolutely brilliant - all-round musicians and entertainers. Not the best venue I've been in, but the problem was more with people who can't sit through even a short set, as this was, (£10 a ticket - I'm not complaining though I could have listened to much more of them) without going out at least 6 times to fetch pints and then dispose of them. I'd have preferred a standing gig for sure. No matter, I'll be at their next one and I hope it's soon.

  20. What is now the CCA on Scott Street used to be The Maryland Club... in the upstairs room the CCA use as music rooms and in the big space between the two buildings covered over and forming the cafe bar, have played, Pink Floyd, Marc Bolan, Edgar Broughton etc etc etc...then one night in April 1971, someone left a fag burning in the dressing room...

  22. The Picture House in Edinburgh is being sold off to Wetherspoons. Real shame as the live music scene here had started to pick up a wee bit again after decades of pretty much nothing. It's Ok if you can afford to spend umpteen pounds on a ticket to see a well-established name (if they deign to come here...in a slot between musicals at one of the theatres), or for smaller names at one of the club venues...which can be great...but more mid-sized gigs would be a welcome change. It's just not practical for me to go to Glasgow regularly for gigs and, while it's wonderful having the largest arts festival in the world on your doorstep, that's only for a few weeks each year and very costly (and a bit annoying, noisy, busy and can make you feel like a stranger in your own home). Long gone are the days when most bands would include both Glasgow and Edinburgh in their tours. I like The Picture House...used to go to the pictures there when it was the Caley Cinema...and it's on a direct bus route from my house! Grrrr! Jx
