Long songs

Pretty much anything over 2:59 is probably considered long these days

  1. The other side never introduced the klaxon did they?
    Freebird and BR ahoy then.

Almost certainly one of those themes where we end up with a repeat playlist.

They should forget Free Bird, and play this instead.

Time for a variation on this theme, i.e. segues.

We All Fall in Love Sometimes/Curtains - Elton

Funeral for a Friend/(Love Lies Bleeding) - Elton Too

Mountain Men/Waking Edge - The Mighty Tull

    Venus & Mars/Rock Show - Macca & Wings

    1. Would you get it past the "25 Test" though?

(Or was it the "20 Test"? Ca mind).

      Wossat?

Also, a viable alternative to Bohemian Bloody Rhapsody -

Tenement Funster / Flick of the Wrist / Lily of the Valley

from the days when Queen were still good.

    3. Was it 20 people had to suggest it or 20 people had to know it. Presumably if the latter the producer did not need to be included in the list of 20 ha ha ha.

    4. No, it was PB's guide to whether a theme would work or not.
If they (in the office) came up with 20 or 25 "good tunes" when a theme was suggested then they would run with it.
This method also lent weight to the oft made accusation that the playlist was pre-determined and that it was a case of matching punters to the songs. Some on the old Blog even used to think one or two regular requesters were in fact fakes used to get songs in that hadn't been requested legitimately.

    5. 20 songs of 6 minutes would eliminate the giggling (and the news)

    6. Friends, I don't give a flying f--k ! I reckon there is nothing to stop Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum mixing tracks irrespective of their duration. Easy shift, lazyitis spring to mind.

  5. Well, that's the first time I've listened to the programme for longer than 2 songs since I can't remember when - I thought it was different class altogether.

Be back to auld claes and parritch ramorra.

Seven Cheese on Ryebread - Queen of Puddings with Freddybrek Mercury

    2. I thought it was the most dreadful bore - utterly predictable.I just don't get this tidal wave of guff about The Stone Roses. The Television track is long but could easily do with being at least five minutes shorter. A lot of pointless noodling. A long piece, but hardly a masterpiece.

...at least we didn't get Bohemian Rubbish or bloody Freebird again.

    3. I'm also unsure about long songs especially the ones that have stretches of instrumental in them.......at least with dylan, american pie etc there is some attempt at a narrative which is quite interesting in itself....but these things that just hand over to the drummer while the rest go for a fag....i gave up on long songs at a deep purple gig circa 1971...pure mince.

the morra............if anybody can get a song that incorporates a 'hot pea special', i'll second.

    8. Henri, I completely disagree. I think that Marquee Moon is superb. I missed the last track as the radio was rapidly switched off to avoid hearing the most predictable song of the night.

    9. Rather bizarrely I Feel Love was interrupted for Vic to have a chat with Jamie MacDougall.
