Somebody should point out to B Doig on Facebook that "Mama Told Me Not To Come" was a hit in 1970. Plus "Handbags and Gladrags" was only released as a single by Rod in the USA and that was 72. Maybe his first album wasnt the greatest hits of 1973 after all.
Dear Mr dantic - we prefer not to let facts get in the way of a good story. For example it is good that Parallel Lines has recently (last night) been declared the greatest debut lp of all time.
Ah, I see... Miss B used to tell the story about how DLT stayed over one night at her parents’ place when she was a lass. I think conversations at the coffee machine have been coming to sudden halts since he was charged.
Meanwhile on the other side... Wor Julie is asking but no one is listening and it looks like the Liquid Entertainer has made an early start to the weekend.
Oops, misread the theme. So no, Adam I won't be going for Tom or anyone else, it's another dud, barrel-scraping nae imagination idea. No, it's not even an idea.
Dearame Glen, I see what you mean. Their grasp of functional English is as bad as their grammar. How did it go in the end? Did they manage to get enough genuine offers? What was Paolo's shout?
Caught the last half hour of the BB King documentary on BBC4. Wish I'd seen the first hour - it'd better turn up on iPlayer, though not everything seems to.
So what inspired this theme then Julie? Coz you know it'll be some bloke in Dalkeith that has spaghetti hoops on toast for his tea that'll be credited with it.
Can i just say, having dropped in and read back, and made sense of Scotch's texts last week, that I didn't get a theme played last week...unless they found Gaie's jotter from the last decade. . In fact I haven't suggested a theme or a request or managed a listen since the bygone days of Englandshire being a dry country. What's the themes this week then? Have we done a referendum theme yet? there's loads of referendum songs.
I listened tae about an hour of the show tonight. What a load o guff about recipes an weird meals fae folk who haven't been on before. Even the Meek family have stopped telling us their eating habits.
It's about time Aggie fae Hawick came back wi her hedgehog pies.
I remember the day Runrig played Balloch. I was driving to scarborough with a wife and three weans in the car whilst all the pals I had converted to Runrig were heading for balloch. Having seen them at the QM hall of residence, Tiffany's, Night Moves and best of all barrowland, I missed out on ther finest hour and lost interest in them soon afterwards.
I couldn't begin to choose just one, but certainly Runrig at Barrowland are always brilliant. Donnie's farewell at Stirling Castle was obviously memorable and then our first post-Donnie gig in Greenock Town Hall kicked off a whole new and vastly enlivened era. . The Silencers Burns Night gig for Cha Burns (ABC) shortly before he died will always be a stand-out memory - the atmosphere was unbelievable. Tribes at Òran Mòr last year were first-rate and they'd have been brilliant at Barrowland. Sadly they're no more. Didn't see that one coming.
There's so much discussion on FB on the Apollo page and so many folks with happy memories, but though I saw the Stones there and I'm sure must have been blown away at the time, I can't actually 'feel' what it was like at all any more it was so long ago. Eric Clapton, Edinburgh Playhouse - that was good. So was BB King with Robert Cray. And so it goes.
My all-time stand-out gig will surely always be Tom Petty at RAH. But then that's not in Scotland.
well they'd better play Siobhan Wilson's A Case of You this time. I know they've got it, Roddy Hart's already played it, but it was Bryan who asked her to send a recording. Of course if Billy'd like to ask for it that would avoid them having to mention me.
jist sayin' there pure hunners of requests for The Proclaimers over by. Some folks must like them.
You can diss Runrig if you like, Julie, but if I tell you, if I thought I were going to a gig with them at Barrowland tonight, I'd be singing in the rain already :0)
Have a good time Norrie. Does that mean you wont be over for the WC?

DeleteMONDAY
Skating Away on the Thin Ice of a New Day - Jethro Tull
The best chance so far this year to get the Mighty Tull played!
I'm not convinced the producer will consider that fits in with the theme of 2 hours of essential music.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm glad you're still such a cheery optimist.
:0)
O, ye of little faith! Monday's theme is the Winter Olympics
Jethro Tull are a shoo-in!
>8-D
that'll be the thin ice of hell having frozen over, then?
DeleteIndeed! Tuesday's show will be the usual suspects, with a glimmer of hope for Wednesday!

ReplyDeleteThey might be struggling with the theme tonight. How many "cold"s can they put in? Its no even that cauld in Sochi. 10C today.
At least they got most of the buildings finished.
DeleteAt least everyone is coming.
DeleteWarren didn't write the bloody song... Don't you hate it when your elders blag your ideas!
DeleteKeep it country!
They're still looking for people for the opening ceremony - they've got a jazz trio at the moment.
DeleteIf that comment is targeted at me, Mac - it's a different song. I'm quite hurt, in fact I resemble that remark.
ReplyDeleteNot the song Faither .. the sport!
ReplyDeleteSo did Tull and Warren get on?
ReplyDeleteaccording to this
Deletethey were sonic soulmates
Tonight, friends, I am going to suggest The Dark, Dark Bright by There Will Be Fireworks.
ReplyDeleteWhit a terr.
Adam will be able to hear the laughter.
DeleteI am going for Bohemian Rhapsody.
DeleteThey're looking for the best Greatest Hits album so it might be an evening of Queen.
Delete"These Are The Days"
DeleteWhats all the racket???
DeleteGaie, I'm surprised you're not going with something from Tom and Ken's live anthology?
I almost asked a stupid question. Got you now Adam.
DeleteOops, misread the theme. So no, Adam I won't be going for Tom or anyone else, it's another dud, barrel-scraping nae imagination idea. No, it's not even an idea.
DeleteSpot on Gaie.
DeleteBTW how did Vannesa Mae qualify for the Olympics?? Sounds like a fiddle to me.
just another string to her bow
DeleteAt least she isn't doing it for the money.
DeleteOh behave and give poor girl a break you lot, there's a movie and film score in the experience somewhere.
DeleteWhat do you think Mr Git?
ReplyDeleteI lasted 38 seconds. Is this a record?
No, I think it's a CD.
Deleteor else it's how long I stood Miss B's cackling for, before switching to radio 2.
So what theme was the one referred to tonight as one suggested by Paolo? I'm sure I heard him mentioned. Jx
ReplyDeleteOffers you can't refuse is tonight's theme. Paolo was credited with coming up with this.
DeleteSheesh! He'll do anything to get the Bellamy Brothers on.
DeleteIt isn't a roaring success. There seems to be a basic lack of understanding as to what constitutes an offer e.g. Van Halen's Jump.

Who's Paolo?
DeleteFine, last time I spoke tae him
DeleteI watched the Olympics. Don't know if he got a shout. David Bowie wants us to stay in the UK.
DeleteOsborne, Barroso, Balls, Alexander and now Bowie, we're all doomed I tell ye!
DeleteApparently as an expat I can opt to remain British if you lot do do something daft.

DeleteWey hey! It's my theme on Monday...hope there are no Queen or Blondie songs about mirrors/reflections. Jx (there will be though)
ReplyDeleteAs I reflect on the last time we had this theme, I cannot help but wonder if Monday's playlist will mirror it.

I really don't know Adam. It just popped into my head and I thought it might appeal to BB etc over some of the facebook clan's suggestions hehe. I don't even have a song-suggestion. Maybe I'll be assembling a croquembouche while simultaneously stirring a béarnaise sauce and keeping an eye on the baked alaska. Jx
