  4. I lived in the Hillhead constituency in 1982 when Woy 'the claret dwinker' Jenkins won the famous by-election for the SDP. During the campaign we were treated to Pastor Jack's anti-papal visit election literature - I wish I had it now, hilarious. This was the height of the SDP's success - it looked as though they would sweep all before them but, within months Auld Maggie took on the Junta, and it was all over for Dr Death as quickly as it started.

Out of 22 songs played, he managed to come up with 6 that kept me tuned in.

Those 6 songs aside, I was bored rigid.

as if the dep made any difference to the playlist. It's pre-defined and for that reason, I'm out. I know, I know, I played along one day last week, and hey, it made a young singer very happy, but in general, the whole forced jollity of digging up old themes and kidding on that garyfaeglesca's Queen suggestion is a stonker - nah, GIO is well past its sell-by.

  7. Dear Listeners and Colleagues,

I have convoked you to communicate to you a decision of great importance for the life of the BBC in Scotland.
After having repeatedly examined my conscience, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advancing age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Get It On presentation.
I am well aware that this position, due to its essential nature, must be carried out not only with words and music, but no less with accompanied giggling and simpering.
However, in today's world, subject to so many rapid changes in musical fashion and shaken by questions of the deep relevance of reggae and rap, in order to steer the ship that is Get It On and proclaim the truth that “you choose the music”, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months (you will have noticed), has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognise my incapacity to fulfill adequately the mission entrusted to me.
For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the DJ-ship of Get It On. The vacant position will be advertised in due course in The Govan Guardian and Interior Decoration Monthly and a successor appointed by BBC Scotland.
Dear Friends (I think I can call you that), I thank you most sincerely for all the suggestions (musical and otherwise) with which you have supported me in the past and I apologise for all my shortcomings.
Despite my going the show must go on and I urge you to try to forget me and support the new presenter. Get It On is bigger than all of us.

    Bryan

  8. Getting back to the Pontiff - my son was wondering if the Catholic Church might not consider some sort of reality show to decide who gets the job next.
Of all the formats we bandied around the one we like best so far is "Pope Idol". The usual panel type show. On the panel so far -Robbie Coltrane and Simon Cowl (see what I did there!)

  11. my listening habits fall into 2 categories......when i'm making and eating ma tea..others tell me to get it aff.......i retort but i'm trying to get it on (peels of laughter.....from me)

or else i'm in the car between assignments .....(thank you for sharing. Miss B)

strangely the one programme i really liked recently was the songs from musicals........i found myself sort of singing along with most of them even although my usual response to musicals like 'gigi' or 'south pacific' is nah dinnae bother.

i am a revisionist with a philosophy 'if your not innit...etc etc....'...its my one spot in the day when i can have an influence on what goes out over the air, on the BBC as well.....and all those claims about the beeb being populated with eton posh boys just melts away.....and when BB very kindly read out a chunk of an e-mail that actually gave some comfort and meaning to my sister in law....well you wont find me complaining...(aww thats nice Dale....what song would ye like....Miss B)

    cheers frae the dale
